Austerity?!? Really?

Scene at a Delhi Airport
The flight to Mumbai is late by a couple of hours. Passengers waiting in the hall when suddenly, there’s a huge crowd of people chanting someone’s name and the passengers are made to give up their seats…Uhh.. why’s this? Oh right… it is because our beloved netas now want to travel with the lesser folks… the cattle class as they call it.

Do they really think that we are stupid enough to think that the Netas are actually saving public money by giving up their luxuries?

First things first… Why insult two of the few respected men that you have in your cabinet by talking about their lifestyles in public?  The two Gentlemen in question, who were publicly humiliated by the Govt’s money manager happen to be more respected than most of the other MPs in the Parliament put together, one as a great CM and another as an under secretary general in the United Nation. Of all people in the parliament today, it would be stupid to think that these two are the ones who are interested in squandering public money.

Why is this Austerity drive just an eyewash?

  • What about the millions being raked up by the netas in names of public works, allowances, bribes, etc?
  • What about the millions being spent in the name of security for every Tom, Dick and Harry in the parliment?
  • What about the huge statue that is being planned to be erected in the middle of the sea?
  • What about the millions spent heli-hopping during the elections?
  • What about the ex-ministers and ex-MPs occupying the palatial Government Bungalows?

After all these years of stripping the country bare, the government now finds that they’ve been spending too much on luxuries! Just an election gimmick! With the elections of a few states coming up in a few months, what better time than now to tell their ministers to tighten the strings?

If they really want to promote cost cutting, lets see them do this..

  • Reduce the number of cars in the Convoys for the ministers, be it the PM, CM or any other Minister as this reduces the money spent as well as helps the environment
  • Reduce the number of useless ’study trips’ that the ministers embark on every few days and if they really have to go on a trip, make them accountable for the knowledge gained from the trip
  • Instead of traveling by economy class to and fro Delhi and their constituency once in 3 days, why don’t they just use video conferencing for everyday meetings and travel only in case of very important meetings
  • Commute by an Ambassadors with Bullet Proof and Shatter Proof glass instead of the fancy Mercs, Beamers and the other high end cars
  • Let their kids to use public transport instead of high end SUVs and Sports Cars
  • Let their kids get admission in colleges on their own merit, rather than using your influence and depriving the kids of ‘aam aadmin’ whom they’re trying to ‘protect’ here

Austerity is not something that is followed by setting rules. Austerity is something that has to come from within (case in point, our very own NRN)

Please let them not downplay the intelligence of the general public by all this Austerity gimmick. It is a farce and every individual worth his salt in this country knows it!
