USA – my first impression…

Been almost 2 months since I landed here in the US. Has been pretty eventful so far… Life in the US is, well almost like what people said it would be…

First off, you can’t keep away from all the American food… I mean… as much as you like to hate it, you can’t ignore it… the oodles of cheese, fried stuff, meat… you just can’t keep off it

Coming from India, its amazing how different everything here is…

Something that immediately strikes you is how everything here is opposite… anything you see or do is opposite to the place from where i come…

You drive on the other side of the road

You measure with different units

The electric sockets are of a different shape

The weather makes you feel like you’re inside a giant walk-in refrigerator set to the coldest possible temperature

Most of the food that you eat is cooked then frozen then thawed out and then eaten whereas back in India, hardly any food except vegetables and ice cream is kept in the refrigerators

In India, people hardly ever parcel leftover food at restaurants, but here, nobody so much as bats an eyelid when you ask them to pack up the leftovers from your table for you to take home

The last two months that I spent in the US have been unbelievable for me… First off, as soon as I came here, it was the holiday season, with everybody in the holiday mood, all merry, waiting and planning for the new year, all that gave me a really great feeling… Then I went to visit couple of friends in Chicago for the holidays…

You know, when I was in India, I’d heard many times that friends are as important as family… But when I came here, was that I realized that friends are family. When I stepped into my friends’ house in Chicago, I felt like I was home… I mean I’d visited many people at their homes before I went to this guy’s house… but then, when it is a close friend, even stepping inside his house for the first time makes you feel like you’ve been there forever and can call it home… guess that is why they say friends are as important as family!

Like I’ve said earlier, I’ve been having a blast since I got here… already went on about 6-7 road trips… seen 3 different big cities and a couple of small cities… will be chronicling all my experiences here… stay tuned!
